My name is Private Larry Johnson. I was born on June 23, 1922. This year, 1940, I enlisted in the British military in order to protect and serve my country with great honor. The war is long and tiresome. It has been a long time since I have had a decent night’s sleep. The Germans are constantly planning, and we have to constantly keep up our guards. There are so many of the Germans, and as of right now it is not completely clear who is winning this war. Just about 8 months ago we had lost 11 destroyers in a ten day time period. I honestly cannot say how much longer we can go on this way. We need help and we need it fast. One of my friends in the other battalion told me that our prime minister, Winston Churchill is trying to get the Americans to help us. He says that FDR is not hesitant at all on this request, buy the congress is restraining him from doing what he wants to do. I hear that he is coming up with some sort of bill. I think its called the Lend Lease Act. It involves the process of the Americans building tanks, fighter planes, and other military equipment and lending it to us so we can use them. I think that this would be great not only for us, but for the Americans as well.This act will help us getr the supplies that we need in order to properly fight back at the Germans where as it will help the Americans finally get out of the economical depression that they’re in by putting millions of everyday Americans back to work. I think that I heard somewhere that we would be getting over 31 billion dollars worth of war equipment and supplies, where as the other 19 billion dollars of this 50 billion dollar act will be distributed to about 37 other countries. That is a lot of money. All I know is that FDR is passing an act that could change the whole momentum of our war. I hope that this transaction means that the Americans and we will have a closer relationship.
